ALIGNMENT

01. premise & about us
Alignment is a Marvel and DC next generation community aimed towards being laid back and heavily member influenced! Whether we stay small or get big, our main focus is to remain friendly and welcoming to all members. We'd like to go back to the time of petty arguments, drama, hilarious ridiculousness, and off the wall creativity so we welcome all characters and all backgrounds. That being said, however, there are still basic rules that ought to be minded!

First and foremost: please avoid ooc drama! Be friendly, courteous and open-minded. We would love to see a lot of ic drama, so don't take things personally ooc. We welcome characters that are down to earth, crazy, unstable, shy, jerkish or maybe even a bit of everything. We don't want anyone being scared of branching out here so we ask you to leave your worries behind and just concentrate on your character. However, ooc bullying, ic/ooc line-crossing, and other such shenanigans are not tolerated.

So what is a next generation community all about? Simply, members are creating the fictional children of already existing characters. Whether it's Batman and Catwoman, Tony Stark and any number of women, or even crossing lines with Wonder Woman and Captain America—so long as you can give a reason as to why they'd even meet we'll allow it! Same goes for deceased characters. We all know both Marvel and DC love to bring characters back from the dead and we do too. Already existing children, however, are not allowed.

02. the old school way
We want to go back to the great times of yesteryear with strike-throughs and public drama. Customs can still be used, of course, but we'd love to see a comeback of entries including [Private to XYZ] and would like to suggest that they're particularly used during large plots or when groups (such as heroes, villains, or whatnot) need to discuss ic plans. Group threads are also encouraged and we'll be offering opportunities for members to start them themselves!

If you have any old school wishes you'd like to see included drop us a note!

03. location
Though we know heroes and villains have a reach across the world, for simplicity we'll be operating primarily in New York as it's notorious for fictional disasters as well as home to many of our favorites. We may occasionally offer plots that extend past the state's perimeters, and we will make note of such when that happens, but otherwise everything will remain in New York.

04. the universe
For the sake of ease, we'll be focusing only on the primary realities. So for Marvel this would be Earth-616 and for DC this would be both New Earth and Prime Earth. We're combining New and Prime for DC because there is so much overlap and, as of right now, the differences aren't entirely clear and can be confusing for many. Any events that have happened in the comics will be regarded as history but, to avoid confusion, won't have real dates attached to them. Members are allowed to blur lines as much as needed to make things work, provided they don't stray too far from the original intent. If you have any confusion or concerns definitely let us know and we'll do our best to help!

In this specific reality Marvel heroes/villains/etc and DC heroes/villains/etc have coexisted and, more often than not, had an unspoken turf war. We're fine with overlap with offspring, siblings, occasional team-ups, but for the most part it should be the norm to consider that the characters of either franchise didn't always get along. Just the same, we encourage members to poke fun at similarities and obvious parodies by implying their parents have made verbal action or even legal action against heroes/villains/etc who are reminiscent of themselves. For example, Catwoman might have had something to say about Black Cat's entire existence.

In regards to canon accuracy, because both Marvel and DC are notoriously inconsistent with frequent retcons and rewrites we won't be expecting anyone to have exact knowledge of anything. Even if you've never read any of the comics or even seen a related movie, that's fine! The focus is on their children and not so much on the characters themselves. We do ask, however, you at least skim the appropriate Wikipedia pages to maintain a general knowledge.

05. applying & acceptance
Applying is pretty basic here. You need an ooc journal (no extra letters, numbers, or underscores and related to your character in some way), backdated ic and ooc contact posts, and a few basic details about your character. Just something to touch on your concept briefly—name, age, alignment, abilities (if applicable), and occupation are more than enough! If your character does have powers we do ask that you give just a short idea of what their strengths and weaknesses are. Please keep in mind that powers should be in relation to their parentage! Batman's offspring won't have powers since he, himself, doesn't and any of Captain America's children wouldn't be able to shapeshift. Consider both parents and be reasonable in your choices.

For examples we'd like to see a minimum of one scene and one narrative, though you're more than welcome to provide more if you'd like. If there are any issues that we feel can be immediately addressed we will contact you. Otherwise, if your application was deleted you were rejected.

Once you're accepted you will be expected to intro to transmission, our catch-all community, within 48 hours. Failure to do so will result in immediate removal.

Please ensure that you've checked what parents are taken before applying! All potential siblings must be spoken to beforehand as to avoid any confusion or unnecessary drama.

06. restricted powers
For the most part we don't want to put limits on creativity or powers. That being said, however, reality altering powers are not allowed for the sake of plot purposes. We would also like to put emphasis on manners and that no character has ultimate capabilities—everyone should have their own list of weaknesses. Moreover anything involving another character should be discussed with that player first, regardless of your character's abilities! Godmodding is never allowed.

07. activity
There is no update requirement but you will still be expected to maintain a certain level of activity! Let's face it, the greatest gpsl killer is a too lax attitude, so we're hoping to cut through the issue. Alongside keeping your friends list updated regularly and being present on the fp, you will be expected to post to transmission at least once every three weeks.

Keep in mind that we will be checking flists and posts regularly so if you are not updated nor present you will receive a warning. Additionally, if it is apparent that you're skirting by on the bare minimum you will receive a warning. If it continues to be an issue you will be removed. Of course, however, if you're in need of a hiatus or struggling in any manner you can always comment our dropbox! As rigid as this all sounds we are quite accommodating and understanding, so please do not hesitate to come to us.

08. extras
We're still in the process of getting these together, so keep an eye out! Additionally, if you have any ideas or suggestions, feel free to let us know.
